The right auger size depends on the diameter and depth of the holes required for your job. Smaller augers are ideal for lighter fencing and garden stakes, while larger diameters are better suited to thick posts, larger trees and more heavy-duty work. 

After use, remove any stuck soil or small stones from the blades and drum, then rinse and dry the steel to help prevent rust and keep the cutting edges in good condition. A light spray of oil on the working parts, plus storage in a dry shed or garage, will help the auger withstand regular use in hard ground and different soil materials.
